Health, Safety & Regulatory Affairs (HS&R)

In recent years issues such as product safety, environmental exposure and compliance with legal restraints have become more and more important. Most responsible manufacturers have created special departments to deal with these challenges. The main task of this job is to gather all available national and international information, process it according to the industry and make it available to customers and users.

Since July 2001 this is has been done by an independent and neutral department (HS&R) that reports directly into the CEO of the RAHN-Group. The HS&R department consists of several personnel, who ensure the implementation of regulations according to «Responsible Care» principles.

Key issues are the correct classification, labelling, packaging and transportation of products. The main concern is the protection of people and the environment. To achieve these goals detailed information about the type and quantity of all components or our products are needed. This requires extensive internal and external analysis to assess hazard classes and other risk and safety related statements. Together with other product data this information can be found on material safety data sheets, technical data sheets, labels and other documents. Because of such a variety of documents and frequent changes the consistency and integrity of the database is a focal point of HS&R.

For the development of new products for sensitive applications (e.g. inks for food packaging) in-depth profound knowledge about the substances and their official approvals as well as their specific properties (threshold values and migration) is essential. Suitable raw materials can then be identified and products can be formulated whose future use is as safe as possible.

Tasks HS&R Affairs:

  • Product safety and health
  • Transportation and storage
  • Environmental protection
  • Special applications, such as food or medical
  • Country-specific product registrations
  • Contacts with governmental organizations
  • Cooperation with industry associations
