RAHN-Cosmetic Actives CELLIGENT® and DEFENSIL® protect epidermal stem cellsl

Stem cells are the fountain of youth for skin. Epidermal stem cells are the key cells that initiate tissue regeneration and play a fundamental role in skin rejuvenation. They are responsible for the maintenance of skin homeostasis after the skin is stressed or damaged.

Stem cells, however, age over time and lose their stem cell potential. As a consequence, skin rejuvenation, epidermal homeostasis and tissue regeneration is diminished, eventually resulting in intrinsic skin ageing. Stem cell ageing is further accelerated by extrinsic factors such as air pollution, daily sunlight, and ozone. Thus, damage of stem cells is a predominant factor that leads to accelerated skin ageing.

RAHN has screened two cosmetic actives, DEFENSIL® and CELLIGENT®, for their stem cell protecting properties and have observed impressive results for both.

CELLIGENT® is both a preventative and an active cell and DNA protector. The active ingredient complex has been specially developed for treating UV-stressed skin.
CELLIGENT® shows excellent stem cell protecting properties following exposure to UV-stress:

  • NEW: Maintenance of stem cell tissue restoration capacity upon UV-stress (in-vitro study)

CELLIGENT® maintains the function of epidermal stem cells, is an intelligent stem cell and DNA protector, and therefore should form part of any modern anti-ageing product.

DEFENSIL® is an optimised system for physical and biochemical protection which normalises sensitive skin types due to its excellent inflammation inhibitory efficacy.
Treatment with DEFENSIL® leads to remarkable effects on stem cells following damage by UV-irradiation:

  • NEW: Enhancement of colony forming efficiency of epidermal stem and progenitor cells upon cell stress (in-vitro study)
  • NEW: Protection of stem cells and their ability to form a 3D epidermis upon cell stress (in-vitro study)

DEFENSIL® provides resistance to the key cells involved with skin homeostasis and thus counteracts the appearance of irritated and stressed skin.
